*Castaways are known for being foragers and will sometimes root and dig around their living space, so Slink-proofing is advised. They are also highly social and require companionship from other Slinks to thrive in a household, as well as a decently large space to roam; they're not very well suited for apartments and other small dwellings. Be prepared for some extra noise and flashing lights too; Castaway Slinks are very vocal and flashy because of their love and need for socialization. When they need something, they'll make it extremely obvious to you and all of their friends. Watch out for them eating not-so-good things, and be mindful that Castaway Slinks are capable of giving you a small but painful nip or scratch.
Breed Description
Castaway slinks are a breed that came about naturally from feral Slinks that managed to eek out a living on a wild, uninhabited planet. Over time, they have developed more glow spots for better communication and stronger survival instincts to keep themselves alive without owner interference. They are intelligent, highly social, slightly larger than standard Slinks, and somewhat flighty for their original feral lifestyle. The planet is well-populated with the little scamps, so they're considered a great subject to use in other Slink related breeding projects, especially because of their hybrid vigor.
In Castaways developing better survival instincts, they've expanded their diet and are more than willing to try new foods. They will sometimes demonstrate very basic hunting behaviors, despite their ancestors not being a predatory species. It's likely a trait that rose from redundancies in their scrambled genetics that began to shine through again after a few generations of natural selection.
With slightly sharper teeth and claws, they're well equipped enough to eat (or attempt to eat) smaller critters like bugs and other invertebrates. This may or may not be good for them, but they'll give it a shot anyways.
They're a super vocal breed, always expressing their thoughts and feelings by beeping and flashing at you and your other slinks, sometimes relentlessly. Though Castaways are perfect for somebody who loves very interactive pets and wants to know what they're feeling, they're a major offender when particularly noisy slink "traffic jams" form. If all of your slinks are beeping and flashing away as loudly as a plane taking off and you have a Castaway, it's probably their fault.
